Queens County and City of Charlottetown

City Living, Island Charm

Feel the energy of our province’s capital city, Charlottetown. Here you will find the perfect combination of historic and new architecture and accommodations. The city thrives due to industries like biotechnology and manufacturing, and hosts various postsecondary and early education centres.

Things to See and Do

Charlottetown might be a small city, but it’s bursting with big energy and infectious Island vibes. It has all the charm and hospitality PEI is famous for, plus culinary experiences and an arts and culture scene. Enjoy postcard-perfect streetscapes, a wandering boardwalk, and the endless views of sailboats.

Queens County is home to the best of the land and sea. Outside Charlottetown, you’ll find quaint fishing villages, including the rural communities that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables. Experience pristine beaches, a network of wooded and coastline parks and trails, and neighbours who genuinely care for your well-being.

Charlottetown is home to three post-secondary schools: University of Prince Edward Island, Holland College, and Maritime Christian College.

Healthcare Facilities

Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is PEI’s largest multi-service acute care facility with 243 beds. It provides both community services and specialized provincial services, and supports both inpatient and outpatient care. It is home to the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre, Ambulatory Care Centre, Provincial Stroke Unit, Provincial Rehab Unit, and more.

The provincial in-patient psychiatric facility, Hillsborough Hospital, is located adjacent to the QEH. Plans are underway for a new mental health campus to replace this facility and expand mental health services on Prince Edward Island.

For family medicine, this area is divided into two Primary Care Networks: Queens East and Queens West.
