Kings County

A Nature Lover’s Paradise

With a population of 17,160 people, the natural beauty and charm of the eastern region of Prince Edward Island is breathtaking. Its largest municipality is Three Rivers, which includes eight communities, villages, and towns. Georgetown is the historic capital and home to the Kings Playhouse, which has been a cultural landmark for more than 130 years.

Among those Indigenous to the area, our diverse population includes live generational families of farmers, fishers and makers, an Amish community, Buddist monks and nuns, and residents from around the world.

Things to See and Do

In this region, you’ll find extensive boardwalks and trails—perfect for hikers, bikers, or wanderers. Head over to one of 50 nearby beaches in the area. Kings County residents are particularly proud of Greenwich located inside the PEI National Park and home to the largest sand dunes in Prince Edward Island. Kings County, or Down East, as the locals call it has another fan favourite must-see beach: Basin Head Provincial Park, famous for its unique singing sands! No really, its pure white sand ‘sings’ when stepped on due to a high silica content.

More of a golfer? Tee off at one of the 10 local, and in some cases, world-renowned golf courses in the area. Prince Edward Island is known for some of Canada’s best golf courses fit for all skill levels.
