Health PEI is seeking internationally trained physicians (ITPs) to provide office-based primary care at the Summerside Community Health Centre following successful completion of a Practice Readiness Assessment.
Health PEI and the Province of Prince Edward Island have entered a partnership with the Physician Assessment Centre of Excellence (PACE) in Halifax, Nova Scotia to provide workplace-based assessments for ITPs seeking medical licensure in Prince Edward Island to practice in office-based primary care.
At the PACE Clinic, Candidates provide primary care to patients while being supervised by experienced family physician assessors. These assessors also serve as the most responsible physician, ensuring patient safety and providing structured evaluation throughout the assessment period.
The assessment environment is designed to closely replicate independent practice. Candidates are provided with the tools, systems, and supports they would typically use in a community-based setting, with the expectation that they will further develop their understanding of the Nova Scotia healthcare system during the assessment. Upon successful completion of the assessment program, candidates will be required to fulfill a Return of Service commitment at the Summerside Community Health Centre or other facility based on physician workforce needs and the terms outlined in their signed Return of Service Agreement.
Family Medicine Physicians in Prince Edward Island practice within a collaborative, team-based environment alongside skilled allied health professionals, supported by a province-wide Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Health PEI is actively implementing the Patient Medical Home (PMH) model of care, an innovative approach endorsed by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The Summerside Community Health Centre is one of the established PMH sites, delivering comprehensive, patient-centered primary care to the community.

- Full or part-time, regular office hours Monday-Friday up to a maximum of 37.5 hours/week.
Salary:
Physicians employed under the salaried model enter an employee-employer relationship with Health PEI. This model includes a defined schedule, assigned duties, and a comprehensive suite of employment benefits such as:

Compensation: $166.90 per hour (equivalent to $325,455 annually for a 1.0 FTE)
NOTE: Employment by Health PEI upon completion of the PRA program is conditional upon the candidate’s assessment resulting in provisional registration by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Prince Edward Island, participation in the PRA program is not a guarantee of employment.
- Eligible Moving Expense reimbursements are available.

Upon fulfillment of the Return of Service commitment associated with this position, opportunities for Contract-for-Service or Fee-for-Service compensation models may be explored.
- Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island (CPSPEI)
- Hold a medical degree from a medical school or faculty of medicine that is accredited at the time the degree is granted
- Have successfully completed a post-graduate medical training program in Family Medicine or General Practice;
- Actively practiced medicine independently in another jurisdiction recognized by CPSPEI for a minimum of 450 hours within the past 5 years;
- Be certified by an organization, recognized by CPSPEI, governing family medicine or general practice in another jurisdiction;
- and satisfy the language proficiency requirements set out in the CPSPEI Language Proficiency policy.
