Health PEI is seeking a Hospitalist physician to provide Inpatient services at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
Hospitalists provide comprehensive inpatient care for unaffiliated patients, including admission history and physical examination, daily medical management, participation in multidisciplinary rounds, family conferences as needed, and discharge planning. Other duties that the PCH hospitalist physician group provide includes “stand by” coverage in the event of high patient census, and acute and targeted outpatient follow up of recently discharged hospitalist inpatients at the hospitalist post discharge clinic.
Located in Prince Edward Island’s charming city, Summerside, the Prince County Hospital, a regional 110-bed hospital with specialty services in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Anesthesia, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry.

- The Hospitalist Physician group generally provides 7-day coverage in a full-time position;
- Daily hours are currently from 8am -5pm, with on-call starting at 5pm;
- Physicians typically work alternating weeks;
- Part-time opportunities are available.
- Hospitalists are paid a sessional hourly rate and qualify for premiums for weekend and holiday work.
- Weekend and holiday premiums are remunerated at the applicable rate plus an add-on premium of twenty-five percent (25%).
- Overnight on-call coverage responsibilities are shared within the Hospitalist group and remunerated by an on-call retainer plus fee for service model.
- A Return in Service Grant is available specific to location, with a three-year commitment.
- Eligible Moving Expense reimbursement is available, with a three-year commitment.
- Opportunity to teach Medical Learners and Residents with faculty appointment at affiliated universities.
- Hospital-based electronic health record system with remote access to lab and diagnostic reports may be available.
- Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island.
- Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada;
- Hold MCCQE Part I or Licentiate of Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) equivalent;
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA);
- Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging;
- Work experience preferable with at least 1- 2 years of clinical experience working in Canada.
