Health PEI is seeking Family Medicine Physicians with experience and/or interest in Oncology care at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Health PEI is looking for individuals to join the collegial, multi-disciplinary team within the Provincial Oncology program. Family Medicine physicians play an essential role in providing direct patient care at the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre with responsibilities including the delivery of community-based oncology treatment and potential for facility based in-patient care. The physicians work closely with specialist colleagues in both Medical and Radiation Oncology through each phase of a patient’s journey with malignancy. The Prince Edward Island Cancer Treatment Centre is located at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, PEI. A satellite clinic at Prince County Hospital, Summerside also provides patients from Western PEI more convenient access to systemic therapy and follow-up care. While the successful candidate will be based out of Charlottetown, travel to Summerside may be required on an intermittent basis to meet system needs.
Prince Edward Island offers a truly unique opportunity for physicians seeking a meaningful and impactful medical career. Prince Edward Island may be small, but it boasts a robust healthcare system that is streamlined under a single health authority. Here, you’ll experience great collaboration enabling you to influence care and implement improvements more readily than in larger jurisdictions. In addition, you will be known not just as a healthcare provider but as a valued community member, seeing your patients and co-workers not just in clinical settings but as neighbors and friends.
In addition to professional fulfillment, practicing in PEI means living in one of Canada’s most scenic destinations. With its safe, welcoming communities and breathtaking landscapes year-round, PEI offers both natural beauty and an exceptional quality of life. Whether you seek a small urban or rural setting, you’ll have access to outdoor activities, fresh food from our land and sea, and a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Health PEI offers multiple payment modality options:
- Salary — Salaried physicians enter an employee/employer relationship with Health PEI. In this model, Health PEI hires a physician under a contract of employment which assigns the hours worked, duties, and responsibilities. As an employee you have access to a suite of benefits, including health and dental, paid vacation and sick days, life insurance, RRSP matching, and more.
- Contract for Service — The less common modality, but preferred by some, is the Contract for Service where physicians are compensated on an hourly basis, as per the Physician Services Agreement. Contract for Service physicians can access benefits through the Physician Services Agreement (i.e. parental leave) but do not have paid benefits like vacation, health and dental, or RRSP matching. The hourly rate is higher than the salary hourly rate to account for these benefits (in lieu of benefits). Income earned on a contract basis may be claimed through a professional corporation, this modality may provide tax advantages.
