Family Medicine Physicians – Prince Edward Island Health PEI is seeking Family Medicine Physicians to provide full-scope family medicine with the option to provide hospital inpatient coverage within the geographic region.

 

Family Medicine Physicians in the province of Prince Edward Island are providing full-scope family medicine. They work collaboratively with teams of skilled allied health professionals, with the support of a provincial Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Health PEI is implementing the Patient Medical Home model of care which has been endorsed by the Canadian College of Family Physicians. Family Medicine Physicians have the option to provide hospital inpatient coverage, including but not limited to participating in multidisciplinary rounds, family conferences as needed and discharge planning.

Health PEI has five Primary Care Networks. Job opportunities are available in all networks across the province. A fully integrated Electronic Medical Record is available in all regions of the province.   • Full or part-time, regular office hours Monday-Friday up to a maximum of 37.5 hours/week.
  • Evening clinic hours may be available depending upon health system need.

Fee-for-Service: 

Under this model, physicians are compensated for each service provided, in accordance with the Tariff of Fees outlined in the Physician Services Agreement. This model offers maximum flexibility in terms of scheduling, service volume, and practice style.

Physicians typically operate through a professional corporation, which may offer tax advantages. Most physicians are responsible for overhead costs, which average around 25% of total billings. While this model does not include paid employment benefits, physicians have access to negotiated benefits through the Physician Services Agreement.

Contract-for-Service:

Physicians working under a Contract for Service are compensated hourly, as outlined in the Physician Services Agreement. While this model does not include traditional employment benefits (e.g., paid vacation, health and dental, RRSP matching), it does provide access to negotiated benefits such as parental leave. The hourly rate includes an additional amount in lieu of benefits.

This model may offer tax advantages for physicians who choose to incorporate.

Compensation: $202 per hour (equivalent to $348,450 annually for a 1.0 FTE)

Salary:

Physicians employed under the salaried model enter into an employee-employer relationship with Health PEI. This model includes a defined schedule, assigned duties, and a comprehensive suite of employment benefits such as:

–  Paid vacation and sick leave
–  Life insurance
–  RRSP matching

Compensation: $166.90 per hour (equivalent to $325,455 annually for a 1.0 FTE)

  • Opportunity to teach Medical Learners and Residents with faculty appointment at affiliated universities.

Atlantic Registry

Starting May 1, 2023, physicians whose primary practice is in Atlantic Canada (and hold a general registration in either PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador) may be eligible to obtain registration to practice in all four Atlantic Canadian provinces via the Atlantic Registry. Health Care Workers are required to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination as per Health PEI’s Covid-19 Immunization and Management Policy.
